Bunrei was a student of Bairei Kōno who published a woodblock-printed picture book entitled Bairei Hyakuchō Gafu (i.e., Picture Album of One Hundred Birds by Bairei) in 1881. Four years later Bunrei published a picture book with one hundred almost identical pictures of flowers and (or) birds. Bunrei typically changed Bairei’s picture compositions by altering the number and (or) position of the flowers and birds. His pictures were also much larger than Bairei’s pictures (i.e., 240 x 360 mm versus 165 x 250 mm). Fifteen of Bunrei’s pictures are included in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it.
